Right so special to couple hours installing windows 7 and right on the final hurdle the power went. Restarted laptop and it asked to restart computer to continue... I did that.. never worked. Took me to a black screen with the option.to install from CD or disc.... I done this and I came to the install screen and selected the option to install. Was told to remove DVD, restart laptop and restart install... that didn't work... I'm basically stuck in. Windows limbo. Can this laptop be saved or is it fked? * +

The person helping me had to leave and I don't know enough to do this myself. I'd be quite happy reverted to vista....at a push I'd take a complete factory restore (which I cannot find the option to do) I can't even restore * +

it shouldn't take hours to reinstall 7 unless upgrading and saving your files ,you need to set your dvd drive as 1st boot by pressing the F? button shown for boot options at that black screen, then restart with the dvd in and when it prompts to press any key to boot do just that thr select reinstall new windows not continue setup as you had power interuptipn ,the rest is self explanatory on the setup screen you can make a partition or just install as is * +

Just do a clean install. That is when you're at the big installation page, chose the Custom option. You'll be shown all drives. Erase the system drive. There will be 2 system drives, one that contains you're OS and a small partition (which is barely like 100 mb or something which is created during installation by windows 7) * +

What Acid said. You will lose all your files though. There might also be a recovery partition that you will want to keep, it will probably be around 4-12GB. So maybe 3 partitions. Install Windows 7 as it is much better than Vista, just remember to plug the charger in while installing. It should be possible to recover your files but that would probably require a desktop PC and you taking your HDD out of your laptop before installing Windows again. * +

If I had another machine, which I duz, I would probably take the HDD out, plug it into the other machine, grab all the files off I wanted to keep, then put it back and clean install the thing. * +
