try task manager shut down option. if it doesn't work reinstall windows..mostly some systems files are corrupt by the looks of it

it could be harddisk aswell..is ur computer bit slowish lately? then laptop harddisk is on its last breath..back up * +

Try the hibernate option mean while, also Run SFC scan in command prompt with Admin Rights. Type Command Prompt in search box in start panel.
when command prompt shows up in programs list, right click and chose Run as Administrator, in Command Prompt Type: sfc /scannow * +

Most often the sfc /scannow will replace the corrupted system files. But if it says cannot replace some files, you would need to manually replace them. * +

create simple file shutdown.bat
edit with notepad and insert text ''shutdown /s''
save, close and run
for restarting replace ''s'' with ''r'' * +

I did the command prompt and it worked. Restarted the comp n pressed f8 and selected last known good configuration. It seems to have worked and its working fine now. Thanx guys. *
