I have a hp probook 4530s core i3 2330M, 4GB RAM laptop that powers off after every 30 minutes of continuous usage even though it does not overheat.I checked to ensure that the fan is clean and even replaced the thermal compound to no avail so now am suspecting that i have a faulty thermal sensor that needs replacing. My question is between the motherboard and the processor who houses the thermal sensor? *

both your processor and mobo will have thermal sensors *

Yeah right! according to intel http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-028869.htm the processor monitors temps via a thermal diode that changes voltages as the temps change. The mobo sensor just reacts to the voltages coming from the processor diode. My guess is i should replace the processor. *
