Hello to all you gurus, I have some mini DV tapes that i want to transfer to DVD. I have messed around and googled around too and have come across softwares like winDV and others that do it but problem is the output RAW avi file is too large. About 12GB for only 1hr of video. Are there softwares that can convert straight from DV to DVD without such huge files? * +

probably not. Why not rip them and convert the .avi to a more compressed codec? There are a few with good compression without much, if any, quality loss * +

H.264/MPEG-4 is good. But will your DVD player play them? Ive had pretty good success with mp4 on DVD's myself * +

I searched and searched and besides some software called DVDSanta I couldnt find any app that does and problem is most of the apps are all dated around 2003 to 2007. The minDV era. The alternative has been use an app like winDV or SceneAnalyzer. Save to pc the huge raw uncompressed avi files. 1Hr vid is 16gb and then use convertXtoDVD to convert them to DVD. And the DVD's play fine on a standard DVD player. * +

not what I mean. MP4 can play in some, most modern DVD players. Rip your RAW images from the tapes and convert to mp4 then burn the mp4 to DVD * +

the problem is in the can play some... i need it to play on almost every DVD player out there and vob is universal or in essence MPEG2. I guess its only logical to forge on ahead with my current method given there are no alternatives. *
