Sometimes there's problems installing a new OS on a laptop. For example, your system probably came with a set of recovery disks and on the underside of the laptop or in the documents is printed the windows licence number. Often the licence number is embedded in a chip in the laptop. * +

The version of windows that comes with the laptop is configured by the manufacture so that the licence is read from the chip and you don't type the licence in when you first setup the laptop or are re-installing from recovery disks. * +

If this is the case installing a new purchased boxed version of an OS might not work correctly. *
