Not looking for anything too fancy schmancy, or plays a few games with 600fps. It'll mainly be used by the bird, and very occasionally by me. Any suggestions on brands and reasons for purchase appreciated, top end of budget 700 to 800 quid. * +

Does that budget include a new monitor? If not you could build a nice PC which will play all current games really well. Even with a monitor you could still build something pretty good. * +

for gaming amd components are not a bad choice either seeing that both consoles will have amd hardware plus they are cheaper. an fx-8350 paired with a 7870, 7950 etc what ever suits your needs and budget

if you can, get a ssd for windows and programs. * +
