got a message this morn on my 6month old laptop, hdd has detected a failure in hitatchi hardrive C. now im backing up all my childs photos to usb so that's mainly what im bothered about but also if I have to remove the hardrive and replace it will I still have windows 7 on my laptop? because I never got a disk with it on? also iv got like 20 steam games on it, can I backup them to another hdd? * +

You would need to reinstall windows 7. If you didn't get a disk then you will have a recovery partition. If the laptop has specific software for backing up windows it might just make an installable backup of the recovery partition.. That would be the best option to use. Steam games can just be copy/pasted and then back on to a new drive, then just install in Steam and Steam will check what data you already have. But, it will be under warranty still so you should be able to get a replacement.. * +

for the disk look on bottom of laptop for the microsoft sticker for the win7 version,ie home, premium, ultimate etc, then go to the link below and download the iso of the version you need, then burn this iso to a disk, then boot from this disk and use your licence key (also found on the sticker) when the installation asks for it. * +
