The stove tripped the main circuit breaker while my PC was in sleep mode. When I tried to switch it on the was no beep but the cpu, power supply fans and HDD were working After doing some troubleshooting I found some of the capacitors on the board had rounded tops. That means the motherboard is dead. Before I could come to that conclusion I checked if the processor is fried by removing the heatsink fan and switching the pc on for 2 seconds and checking if the CPU heats up. It didn't. * +

I guess my question is, does that necessarily mean the cpu is fine? Or they're both fried and should I buy a new PC altogether? * +

usually the cpu is fine but there might be exception you never know unless you test it on a new mobo. * +

As above, the only sure way to know is to test with working parts. * +

bummer!! this is a relatively old low end motherboard and the people I know have different makes. i'll just buy a new one. * +

And invest in a uninterruptible power supply unit, unless u want to replace the mobo again if it happens again * +

lol.. I've been contemplating on buying a UPS since my last motherboard was fried. I've definitely learned my lesson this time. * +
