a mate gave me a laptop so I could try to fix it, but whenever I switch it on it displays a warning that the harddisk is not detected, I asked him if he dropped it and he says no. but if I look closer I see that one of the corners is slightly damaged and there is a small gab where the upper part joins the bottom. so my question is is the harddisk recoverable, or is the only way a new harddisk? also the bios is locked, but he doesn't know the password. thx * +

I'm just wondering why your mate gave you the laptop to fix but your on here asking for help... did someone tell their mate that they can fix PC's when really they cant...take it apart and see if the HD is actually connected, exactly like the previous postee brett said * +

I know how to repair a laptop, but what I wanted to recover is atleast the data on the drive, actualy he locked himself out of the bios by playing with the bios security settings. the only problem is that over here a new laptop harddrivr is nearly the same price as a new low spec laptop * +

Try the drive connected to another computer maybe youll access them valuable datas but if its locked ur data is lost * +
