The machines at work are all connected to this one pc which is the server/main pc however overnight I cant copy/paste or even move any file to any other place i.e from my documents to desktop. The files can be opened but they just cant be moved. Also the taskbar does not even appear. Abit of aletdown since the pc has all the important files. Is this a virus issue or is there something else sinister? Thanks for any help. The pc has AVG antivirus btw. * +

well it just happened that when another person was using the PC last night issues just cropped up. I havent come across such an issue before thats why i'm stumped. The PC is running windows XP. Could it be related to not being genuine? * +

no, i know what LAN and WAN is. All the pc's connected were all XP's so the one was the server from which the main printer was connected to. It's just a simple internet cafe set up. Then 3 pc's got upgraded to windows 7 but the main server pc was still left with XP coz with its config even windows 7 wouldnt install let alone run. Then this mysterious issue just cropped up. Either way i just used an old linux disk i had to access the drive, backed up the NB files the did a fresh XP install. * +

But Windows XP never had a server. It was Windows NT Server, which XP was based off of. * +
