Hello, My university is giving me an option to buy a laptop as part of my enrollment program. The laptop comes with office 2010 pre installed using the university's volume license key agreement with microsoft. Because it is a volume license software, I dont have access to any cd keys or software. I was told the only way to protect this copy of office on my pc is to make a system restore point. If there is ever a problem I can just restore to factory defaults. What if my hard drive crashed, * +

What if my hard drive crashed, or I want to upgrade the hard drive / operating system. Would it be possible to harvest my cd key and use it again on the same laptop? Your advice will be appreciated * +

you were told right. technically the software in question should be removed as its licenced to the university. rather than a restore point, youd be better off making am image of your hdd. * +

get a program called magic jelly bean keyfinder it should give u the keys * +

do some searching you should be able to download vlk versions of office/windows, id do a test run on a spare machine to make sure the keys work, id also be aware that vlk's dont last forever, your university will have to renew their licence and get new keys from time to time so i wouldnt expect to get more that a year or 2 out of it * +
