try it. i do that with all my software, game whatever. first, get process monitor from sysinternals, next, start the game from the folder you missplaced it on. next,in procmon, under filter, set the process name to your application process name, you will get it from a drop down list. set filter event class to registry and add to list. after that, quit the game and start again. this can be done more simply but for clarity sake. now watch what you get in process monitor list and check those keys in regedi * +

in regedit. logicaly decide which to keep. they probably should contain game related data. then you can either export them to a reg file or better, make a batch file if you know how and you're one click away from running it from any folder you desire. or the easier way,if you don't wanna wander around so much, just move the whole game folder where you want and see if it works. some programs work, some don't. additionaly, a folder move may not harm it but system reinstall may cause the vital regi * +

registry informations may be lost and some software like sims3,for example, acts stupid and requires you a complete reinstall because a garbage value key is not found in registry... and that is why i mentioned the hard way. if your game is one of the stupid files,it may suprise you with a 'game cannot continue' screen on a fresh windows install.. and then you'll have to delete the game anyway, and start over * +

Copy 'SteamApps' in the Steam install folder to somewhere safe (it contains all your games and accounts), uninstall Steam, reinstall Steam to the drive you want your games, copy 'SteamApps' into the new folder, done. * +

You don't have to worry about the registry with Steam games. * +
