Hi ive had my apple imac almost 4 years now and ive decided to give it a bit of a service, well with some extras... Im gonna dismantle the thing and take out the black plastic bit off the case and modify it. The slot at the top where the hot air comes out is gonna be widened by about 5 mm. This should help get rid of more hot air. * +

Im gonna add another fan blowing over the power supply because that thing gets way too hot. Im also changing the 3.5in 7200rpm 500gb hard disk for an equivlent 2.5in 7200rpm drive to give more room in the case for air to circulate and reduce hard drive temps. * +

Next up is to replace the faulty dvd/cd rewriter with a blue ray dvd/cd rewriter. This died due to heat build in the case from the 3.5in harddisk and other components. The 2.5in harddisk wont put out nearly as much heat but is a 7200 rpm unit so should have similar performance. * +

I might have a look at re applying thermal paste on the cpu and gpu but if it looks too delicate il leave well alone. There will be alot of dust build up in there so a good clean will help too. * +

Hopefully this will address some off the flaws in apples design decisions when they made this product. Other than that its a really excellent machine. *
