iam planning on buying a new laptop soon but at present iam not sure when because iam wandering should I wait for windows 8? but at the same time a computer magazine I recently saw was urging consumers to buy now because it claimed the constant rise in hard drive prices (due to floods in taiwan or wherever it was) will cause computer prices to rise a lot over the next few months. it claimed that although manufacturers were currently absorbing the increased cost they will not be doing it for much * +

but just to confuse matters even more another publication I was reading claimed that computer prices wont go up despite the hard drive cost issue because laptop sales have fallen (in the uk at least) therefore to increase prices would also decrease sales still further. so what do you believe thats the question? buy now or wait? wait and take the risk or buy now and not wait for windows 8? * +

if windows 8 was a very long time away I wouldnt wait but its only months according to the media anyway. samsung claim they have a win 8 laptop launching in june but that sounds a bit quick to me knowing what microsoft are like. * +

the other issue I have is the fact that every new computer now comes with 64 bit windows which I dont like because I use a lot of 32 bit software that wont run on 64 bit therefore I dont want to be restricted by a 64 bit operating system. what I would like to know is if I wiped the drive on a new machine and installed 32 bit would I invalidate the product guarantee? * +

any help regarding the issues I have outlined here would be gratefully recieved! * +

(I know 64 bit is meant to be backward compatible with 32 bit in an ideal world. but it isnt because I know a few people at my place of work are having issues with 32 bit software. thats just to rule out anyone on here claiming its all backwards compatible because it blood well isnt lol) * +

iam also aware that not every 32 bit program is available in 64 bit. * +
