not true m8. wd made good drives 5-6 years ago. today they make competitive drives but there actually slower than samsung @7200rpm and noiser 2... seagate on the other hand made excelent drives in the l8 80's and early 90's but they got hammered by wester disgital. then about 5 years ago samsung upped there game across the board and when they launched the spinpoint series they overtook Wd quality wise. yes WD still make the best 10000 and 15000 rpm drives but @7200 rpm samsung wins hands down... seriously m8 i could run smart over all 3 of my current drives and there will be 0 errors 1 isnearly 3 years old the other 2 are 2 years old, the last WD drive i had lasted a little over 18 months and failed totaly. but that was the only drive i ever bought online so i suspect it was badly handled in transit. but really that is no excuse as all drives have to be shipped over seas and 8k miles by sea is likley to be harder on them than a couple of hundred miles in a dhl truck. * +

I agree samsumg drives allways seem to get top marks for speed in the computer magz to. wd may last longer but longeivity isnt really an issue as most people will have updated again long before the drive has failed. * +

you know dodgy error rates in SMART can be caused by bad sata cables right? * +
