Just got a chance to choose one between a Seagate and a Samsung Hard disk... Both are 320GB and almost under a year old (in good condition).... So, now how can I compare them to choose the better one?... Tried S.M.A.R.T. tests but I dont understand these values... Help me out guys... * +

at first glance i would say the seagate is on its way out. its either been dropped or banged... the error rate is rediculously highthe reason its not showing actual errors is the previous owner had ran chkdsk. but the samsung is at least 3 years old. it has over 6000 hours of use which is both a good and bad thing. its good that its lasted so long without a single hard error. its bad in that ist over half its life expectancey. * +

if the guy is telling you there both under a year old then he's pulling a fast 1 as neither of em are. the segates smart info doesnt match up and this can only be caused by a low level format. its also how his error count seems to be at 0 but the hardware counter that can only be changed bt flashing the bios tells a differnt story... neither drive is worth more than 10pounds. they are sata, 7200rpm with 16MB caches. personaly i would just buy a new 1 tb drive for 40 pounds rather than paying * +

Both brands are equally good. Just whatever one and hope it still have a good life span. Scan it first with uneraser see if the previous owner were stupid or not removing their private data. * +
