hi i can here the sound of a dvd in wmp but no picture read its because the codec is missing, if i remove wmp from my pc and download another wmp will i be able to watch my dvds ? * +

download a codec pack, k-lite codec pack is the best, just google it * +

done that the other thing i need help with is nero , it burns music files on a disc but when i try to burn avi or films it says insert a cd rw disc surely it has to be a dvd rw disc ? * +

To burn movies to disc i use ConvertXtoDvd its very good software and fast if u have the right hardware, i can Convert 700mb avi film to dvd in 8mins and a few mins burning to disc * +
