anyone know if a cd rom drive on an old computer will play vcd films? I see no reason why not but I wasnt sure. * +

I think so it should but vcd rom supports cd's i can be wrong * +

Yes, it will play any kind of CD's and VCD's... But if its too old, I doubt the lense sensor is still powerful enough to read discs... * +

iam experimenting! I have an old win 98 laptop and I want to see if I can write a film to cd in vcd format that I can watch on the laptop in question! the cd rom drive is in perfect working order and the sony vaio laptop is in spotless condition it came from an old bloke who really looked after it. still got instruction manual in the bag thats still sealed in its bag lol * +

ok ive done it. converted a dixix film to mem peg 1 on my modern computer, burned it to a cdr disc and it plays perfectly on this win 98 sony vaio laptop, no freezes, no jittering its smooth and in sync and sound is fine task accomplished! * +
