Exactly my point spartan2 laptops get bashed around by clowns who dont look after them and these are often the people who will say an acer, a dell, a hp or whatever laptop is cr*p just they havnt maintained it properly! * +

depending on what you buy and when you buy it , the life of a desktop can be as long as 10+ years a 1000 pound desktop with a brand new arcitecture will play any game thrown at it .for at least 5 years.at medium or above settings. the reason for this is the lifespan of a console. spend the same on a lappy and your looking at 3-5 years b4 it needs replacing. the desktop though can be upgraded. * +

my old amd is still going stron. it was playing bf3 last night. medium settings dx9 but its still playing it... and that machine is 5 years old on the 12 of this month. it will play most games in its current config for at least another 2 years... (basicalyy it will last till the current gen consoles get replaced. that machine cost just over 800 , my current 1 wont be totaly usless till 2016 * +

it will be 7 years old by then and long gone from my hands...so i would say a pc will last as long as you need it to. a alptop will need replacing at least 1s in the lifetime of a comparabe desktop... * +

how often a laptop needs replacing also depends on what you use it for. if it still runs the programs you require then there maybe no need for replacement. *
