start up in safe mode, change the res to 640x480 and startup normally. Sounds like the monitor won't support whatever res the laptop screen was set to. * +

Your damaged screen probably caused something inside the laptop to go bad , probably a short . You'll eithe have to shell out big money at a repair shop , or just but a new or used laptop . * +
