How much free space should there be on a brand new unused,un formatted 500 gig hard drive and how much free space after it has been formatted?It is to be used as a second storage in my xp computer.Thanks for any help. * +

unformated ... nothing.... if its not formated then there's no file system so therefore no storage available, once formatted about 480gig as it uses some for the file structure * +
