It was more likely to be a power spike caused by a lightning strike on a power line or transformer , otherwise your printer would be a puddle of burnt plastic . But chances are that the chips got smoked due to excessive voltage . * +

Jupiter by grounding the PC you actually closed you dumbass. lol now you are in more of a risk because electricity can pass through your chassie. lol2 * +

pc cases are earthed thru the mains anyway, u never know mite just be a surge protector fuse in the printer, cheap fix if it is..... * +

@oetinger.... What i joke.... Thats why we ground our electrical equipment's chesis... When electric charge passes through the mains due to the leakage of the mains earthing, the second grounding helps the charge to reach the ground... And thus it protects the electrical instruments inside......lol * +

There's no full proof system to protect electrical equipments from thunder strikes... But we can somehow minimise the loses.... @gaz4... There could be a surge protector fuse but it does nothing infact... Fuses are current sensitive, not voltage... The wire inside melts when it gets over current, not over voltage... So when thunder strikes, the high voltage does the damage in a microsecond when the fuse wire attempts to melt....lol..... *
