have ya right clicked on the drive itself went to properties the hardware and properties and the driver should be there? and if worst comes to worst dvd rws are fairly cheep these days and if u need to reinstall windows without ur disc it can be done via a usb stick into utube for a tutorial is ur best bet * +

i'd follow metulj's advice right away. if it works,it is likely connected,if it doesn't show in drives in my computer,it has nothing to do on whether it is faulty or not,if it can't be even picked up to boot a cd/dvd then a best try would be to check the bios * +

That happen to me a wile back when tje rom rom didn't show on My Computer nor in the drive manager but when I inserted a windows disk in start up it can read it. And be able to format *
