Pls I need ur advice, brothers/sisters. My Windows Vista no longer plays DVD/VCD the way it used to. 90 percent of the time it doesn't play DVD/VCD, but always plays audio cds runs cd software installations well. What do u think is wrong? * +

It sounds like a laser is out of alignment or damaged . Time to buy a new dvd drive . poor * +

go to control panel in windows, then device manager and double click on DVD drive to get the model type. If it dosent show your have to take the drive out and look at the label on the drive. Type this into google and find a supplier to buy a new drive. * +

Thanks guys. I have followed ur steps and checked my DVD/CDrom drives. It reads that 'all devices are working properly'. Could the problem come from dirty Dvd player OR the type of playing software I use( I use InterVideo WinDVD)? What do u guys recommend now)? * +

You can buy a new LG dvd-rw drive from comet for 25 quid including vat. (internal) alternatively mail order between 15 quid and 20 quid. The LG is a 24x dvd drive much faster than the drive you have now and sata optical drives are a peace of pi*s to fit. * +
