chances are your HDD is actually a mess so a reformat might not be the worse idea if its a few years old now and full of cr*p * +

It does give me a giggle how everyone thinks that to fix a problem they can only bring it back to base to resolve it. Tbh that defeats the whole point in the concept of repair, doesn't it? Might as well bin it and buy a new one if that's the attitude. * +

Formatting is a last resort for a problem, certainly for this problem. However its something that i do at least once a year to tidy up the install nicely.
