Please help! my laptop is stuck on installing 3 of 12 updates, I left it on all night its still installing 3rd update. I turn it off and turn it back on its still installing 3rd update. nothing else works on my laptop while it is doing this!! how do I abandon it * +

try this: turn it off, remove the power lead, take out the battery. give it at least 5 mins, put battery back in, plug it in and restart. * +

that wont do it, there is a way of logging into safe mode and switching off the updates then clearing the updates log, not sure how its done now, had the same prob some time ago, google 'clear windows update log' and you'll find the instructions * +

what hapens then is, when you restart the update service, it doesn't know what updates it has, so it rescans your system for missing updates and redownloads the ones needed. the problem happens when an update becomes corrupted and it struggles to complete its task of instaling it * +

I wana suggest u tht never ever dnload these updates. They wr nt always compatiable vid all PCs n cause serious failure. D same happens vid me :( Then I hv 2 load d windows again * +

what a wingnut, the updates seal security holes in the original installation of windows, reducing the risk of hackers etc, they also update your software, if ya dont know what your on about dont comment and give people the WRONG info leaving there system open to failure and corruption...... * +
