Your maximum speeds are determined by your subscription. Other things are too long to type, but for example a server may have limited a user to one connection at x/KBs, but allows more than one connection and non-linear transfers. This means everything to all DL managers as they simply do multiple connections to same file and dl different parts of it ''speeding'' up the total. Obviously filehosts allow only one connection/session and it's set to expire as soon as it's opened. * +

There is also latency. For clear examples, Australia and Japan have horribly high latency towards most of the world and that eats away tons of speed from most off-sh*re connections. *
