Lost an entire folder on my ext hdd after having problems and performing a clean install on my pc. Haven't a clue why the files or missing but anyone recommend any good programs to recover them? * +

There are quite a few , but the cheap or free ones need to be installed before they are lost . Try searching for kim kammando and see if she recommends any good ones . * +
