the only time is when you use mixed speeds and latenceys. say 667 5-4-7-16 and 800 at 4-4-4-15 the mmu will have to work very hard to balance the timings it will first drop the speed to the lowest stick then mix and match the latenceys. it may loosen the 800 stick to 5-5-6 and tighten the 667 to 5-5-6 this will often cause excessive heat in the mmu and can cause the weaker stick to fail. * +

if the stick stands up to it then the mmu could be next to fail as you may be stressing it past its ability to compensate. with the above there isnt that much of a diff but in some cases the memory can have significant variations on timings and the bigger that is the more chance of something failing. * +
