Subject: 2nd sata drive wont boot

bought a new 1tb sata harddrive when i connect it the pc wont boot at all but if i connect my usual drive with windows on it then it boots. At the start screen it shows the the drive has been detected but just wont boot with it plugged in. What could be the cause? * +

Sounds ur using just a single HD i'e 1wit operating system and another new1 without OS. So,if it is yes den either u need 2use both HDD or if single mean 1st format and install OS * +

I cause i can think is os only installed considering first hdd on installing in short os can not detect ur new hdd * +

format what drive? I cant even get into the bios or windows with the new sata installed as soon as i unplug it then windows boots off my other drive.. And yes one has windows on it and the other has no operating system * +

you cant boot off a blank drive. it needs partitions and formatting. you can do 1 of 2 things, reinstall windows on the second drive or just plug the drive in as a secondary and use it as storage. in this case just connect it up to a slave port and format it from windows. * +

ive tried both mate when i plug the drive in it doesnt go past the bios screen and no keys respond.. It detects the new sata drive but just wont go any further than the above but as soon as i unplug the new drive then windows boots no problems * +
