My next door neighbours ancient win 98 pc has finally failed. Hes skint so I Gave him an old xp machine I Had laying around. Last time I Used it, it worked fine but now when I Plug his monitor into it, you get no display. Ive tried his monitor on another pc and it works. Does this mean the computer has a faulty graphics card? With its not connected it displays no source as yu wud expect. * +

possably open it up and see if it hasnt been shrugged loose. if your getting no signal message it, iether means the display is out of range (boot in safe mode to fix) or incompatable display device. the card isnt compatable with the monitor.. * +

Its only a tube monitor but it is a modern tube monitor. But it might not be a bad idea to try another monitor. I did remove the graphics card inspect for damage and dust but looked ok so just put it back in. * +

Monitor display no signal when its not connected as it should do. When connected it displays nothing, not even no signal when its plugged into the pc, regardless of if the pc is powered up or not. Odd. * +

that sounds like the display isnt picing up the rite signal from the monitor. check and see if it says sxga vga or cga sumwhere on the back or in its name. * +
