my cpu is running at about 49 degrees at idle. Sometimes at night it drops to about 45 degrees. It has been very hot here. Upto 40 degrees in the day. cpu is p4 HT 3gig. If I put the machine under strain it does not go above 60 degrees. Will these temps cause problems with the cpu eventually? * +

today the temperature is about 39 degrees, cpu running between 52 - 54 degrees at idle. Put the cpu under full load for 20 minutes while checking temps and checking for throttling. Cpu only goes up to max 59 degrees and stays their. Also the cpu does not start throttling down * +

i would recomend a new cpu cooler also its a p4 so old. it may need new thermal paste as the old may have gone off (it does ofter about 18 months if its stock, arctic mx2-3 and 5 will last 8 years b4 you need to replace it and its the best brand to use... look to spend 20-30 pounds on a cooler and new paste coz viretualy any cooler is better than the stock p4 1 * +

I put cpu in other motherboard a couple of days ago, got huge coolermaster heating and fan on it already. In the other board cpu runs at around 38 degrees at idle, got to still get pci-e graphics card for it though. So rebuilt pc up again with original mainboard. Reapplied thermal paste again, but as usual for some reason cpu runs hot in this mainboard. * +

Check that fan is installed properly fix that it may loose some where * +

in that case you need to check the volts. it sounds like you didnt load optomised defaults. or if you did then you need a bios update... * +
