On my usual round of searching a laptop i noticed a hp dv6 3163SI which seemed decent for like R7 000 however its got a AMD Phenom II Triple-Core Processor N850. how does that compare to the i series of intel or is it similar to the old core 2 duo? Also noticed a pricey Aspire 5820TG. featuring an ATI 5650 card. Its also very light. how do these 2 compare with a lenovo y560? * +

I'd take a Lenovo with an i processor over any Acer or an AMD chip. * +

why is that play.con? infact most laptops i see flooding the market this side is Acer. The slim design, light weight in addition to a good gfx card (ATI 5650) is what i find tempting in the acer. Was all sold out on the lenovo but the battery life has me concerned. On the other hand you get Acer with its 8hr computing prowess or so it claims. does the i7 require more energy even on idle than the i5 or i3? i7 on lenovo pumps for less than 2hrs only everything on max. * +

A lot of questions there. Everyone has stories of bad experiences for ALL manufacturers. It's just my opinion that Acer build quality is poor based on seeing laptops that my friends have owned. Lenovo isn't as well known as other makes, but the ones I've seen are very nice, they 'feel' like they're well built. Intel are better than AMD. Battery life claimed by manufacturers is ALWAYS exaggerated and based on optimal conditions. I'd personally look for a Toshiba with i5 and... * +

Yeah, there will be good and bad experiences for every make. Warranty is the most important aspect after specs. Bloatware, I always do fresh installs after purchase. * +

bloatware does not concern me. software can be rid off very easily hence the invention of delete key and recycle bin feature. hard ware on the other hand is something i have to live with and laptops don't give one much room to move. the ATI 5730 in the lenovo y560 is what has me bowled over. I'm yet to find a better spec'd beauty than that. thats why i was asking if i go for an i5 would battery usage be lower than with i7? surely even on idle i5 consumption has to be lower than i7 or is the 5 * +
