In multi threaded games it'll be a fair bit faster. Several high profile games enjoy a significant advantage with 4 cores. Regards multi tasking it is obviously better. Without multi threading an application will be around the same performance as a dual *

VERY seldom the Duo beats the quad but thats only with benchmarks and stuff. In reality (using your PC everyday, generally) the Quad beats the Duo in everything. Make sure you have enough RAM and a fast GPU to get the most outta the Quad. *
