of startup entries defined in registry.you can use autoruns from sysinternals to get to know some of them and take control over the programs that run in bacckground without your knowledge.running too many programs of course slows down performance.google if you wanna know more * +

you can have a check on your wisdows cos possibily a virus could cause such. *
