the reason for leaving the battery in when on mains, is for if there's a powercut etc,the power gets cut the battery kicks in and you dont lose your work. the cr*p estate i live on gets at least two powercuts a week * +

yes but what costs more? rectifying a windows installation or buying a new battery? and lets be honest most modern computers dont suffer from any issues when restarting after an unexpected shutdown unless there is allready a problem on the system. * +

the frequency of uk power cuts obviously vary according to the area but according to the national grid most people dont experiance them anynore than twice a quarter. and to be honest I cant even remember the last time i had a power cut where i live so it isnt really a big concern. * +

its up to people what they do with their own laptop but personally I would rather risk an unexpected shutdown which rarely causes an issue than facing the prospect of paying 150 odd quid for a new decent quality battery! * +

anyway what about all the desktop users who dont have any kind of battery back up? very few people have UPS back up devices for their pc lets face it! *
