usually i sort whatever the problem my mate pc has but im stuck, when i switch the pc on, it just says ''disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter''. Ive asked my mate to see if he got some disk to put on but he said he didnt get anything with it. He had it for over 2 years now i think and never had this problem before. Does anyone know whats this all about? * +

Did you change something in your drives lately? Did you connect any new SATA device? Did you disconnected any IDE device or changed the devices on an IDE ends? IDE cables are 'weird', you must connect the Master/Slaves etc hard drives in a particular order. All these and many more can be the reason of your problem * +

Anyway, until you find whats wrong, you can turn on the PC, push and keep down (or push quickly many times) the F8 button, until you see the boot menu. Then choose manualy the boot drive. You must do that each time you turn on your PC, its a temporary solution. * +

U must had multiple drives, sata and IDE? Ur windows was in IDE, right? * +

If IDE drive is not detected at boot, then there can either data cable fault or power cable... * +

@ anduan, as far as i know he told me he didnt do anything to it, he didnt add new drives or remove anything. Infact he dont know jack all about pc which is why he always lets me have a look, i know the ins and outs of the tower and can safely say its same when i checked it way back, ive tried doing that f8 button thing but it doesnt do anything. * +

@ 5tranger, yeah the windows was in IDE, i told my mate last night that if he wants let me format everything and he said go ahead, so i did, but again same thing happens, not detecting IDE drives then it says boot disk error. * +
