Hey guys, recently got a ps3 40gb console. I want to know what is the maximum capacity hdd I can insert? 320gb ok? What would I need to do to the hdd to get it running the ps3 software? * +

I know people have 500gb drives in their PS3. I thought the only limiting factor was the physical size of the drive, some laptop drives won't actually fit, like most if not all 1tb drives. * +

Drives of a depth of 9.5mm should be fine (?) but 1.3cm drives will not fit. * +

What speed should the drive be? 5400 rpm or 7200 rpm? Isn't Seagate any good? * +

5400 is recommended by Sony and there is very little difference in performance between them. I read a 7200 drive voids the warranty but I havent checked that out properly, not that Sony would know as you csn just change the drive back to the old one * +

I was looking on google the other day about getting a new HDD and I have just ordered a 640gb a min ago, 55pound delivered from ebuyer. I went for a 5400rpm drive. Only a matter of days now until you will be able to rip your games to HDD and play them without the disk, on the latest firmware. * +

So after you received your 640gb hdd, you'd remove the old one and just reinsert the new one? Or would you load a ps3 file to make it boot? Kinda confused with ps3, very good machine but I am better at repairing my pc. What is the latest firmware? I thought it was v 3.50? * +
