hi ladies n gents..my prob is whenever i try to start my pc up, the lights and fans come on but switch off after about 1sec.. I have to remove and refit the power plug at the back of the chassis. My question is whether this is due to a faulty power supply or a faulty something else. * +

i would start with the psu. then check all the leads to make sure there all connected and there are no shorts.. if all is well move on to the chasis and motherboard. check for loose screws in the chasis shorting the motherboard to it, check all mounts are of the correct type for the chasis and motherboard. but as i said the problem probably lies at the psu. * +

chances are its something either has gone or is about to go in the psu. and is shutting down to protect the rest of the pc. * +

yes. it causes a higher draw of current to the motherboard so more stress on the psu. in most cases its not a problem as the draw is often only and extra 5 watts but can go as high as 25+. if you psu can handle the extra load then its not gonna be a problem. *
