i had a dvd player like that. Anything i wanted to watch i had to copy first. Got rid of it though. Never heard of the problem on a computer though. I'm sure it's a software issue * +

when i put a copy dvd in hp dvd play opens up automaticaly but with an original nothing. its spins a few times in the drive then stops. * +

try going to My Computer and right click on the dvd drive and select play, some copy dvd's do start automaticaly when inserted into a dvd, the copys i make do, originals you have you start yourself * +

could it not be a problem with the region settings on the drive? Normaly a copied disc would be region free, especially if dvd shrink was used * +
