I've tried avast and avg, but neither will update, presumably others wont either. If i try to update it says it can't connect for some reason. I have no virus/malware whatsoever, but something is stopping update's from downloading. Any suggestions? * +

could be virus stopping it as they kill the update to stop it being healed, but avast you have to select the internet conection you are using sometimes, this can be found in the programs settings, allso can be caused by a previous anti-virus instalation not being un-installed properly, run a program called ccleaner, if that fails, might be good to install each previous anti-virus again and * +

un-install them again one by one to clear any bad left overs. ... try microsoft internet security its free and conections to the net are set up automatically.. but ive always found its best to un-install anti-viruses in safe mode * +

Oh i've completely cleared everything from old programs from the registry, i always make sure nothing is left, it's definately not a virus, i've checked several times. After all the trouble i went to to get rid of avast, i'm sticking with avg as it's what i'm used to. * +

using avast n avg is like having a wooden fence around an army base, the fact some hackers are so good they can avoid being detected by kaspersky and norton proves that just cuz u scan ur pc which comes up clean duz not mean u dont have a real shady lil backdoor, download super anti spywear scanner and malware bytes try them, then download hijack this, n upload ur report to thier 4rum or visit bleepingcomputer . com * +

Failing that restore ur pc to its default settings that will wipe of any maleware, cud be an os system complication, wat windows n service pack do u have? if avast n avg wont update thats sumthing v strang, is windows firewall on or of? * +

nastym4n i already have both malwarebytes and superantispyware, both come up with nothing, im using xp pro sp3, ive just spent days getting this pc up and running again, im not starting over, and i have tried switching windows firewall off already * +
