Guys which is the best software to recover old data from a hard drive that has been formatted by both windows and mac? * +

the data would need forensic level recovery tools and would be a costly and time consuming effort as they use different formats, i recently used easeus softs data recovery software with a 100 percent recovery from an mft crash, you do have to recover on to a different hdd though because if you dont you severley reduce the chance of sucsess. * +

Than man. Ill try that and see how it goes * +

if the data has been written over then it's gone. example: delete doesn't remove the physical data. Nothing is ever REMOVED from the drive. all data just writes old data over. Delete simply unhooks the data from index and leaves it visible as free writable space. * +

you mentioned TWO formats... i doubt you'll find anything prior the 1st if even before the 2nd, especially if you have changed the file systems... * +

if you guys got some random ol drives ready to be thrown out, you should zero them and/or write over them with random patterns. commands for linux/unix (also LiveCDs): dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/hda and dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda replace dev/hda and dev/sda with the correct device type. * +

GetDataBack also works quite well. I've use it quite a lot in the past with reasonably good results. Also maby worth a try * +
