i wantto buy an external hard drive but not sure which is the best choice. my notebook hard drive is almost full and need sumtn between 500 and 1TB in size. any suggestions. which brand and model thats has good enough transfer rate * +

your always gonna be limited by the usb bandwidth. so best go for reliability and 1 that has its own power source. powering a drive off a usb can cause write errors especialy if you have a few things plugged into the other 1s. 1tb drives are fine in theory but wd drives are expencive when compared to samsung or seagate. personaly i prefer samsung as they are excilent for the price. * +

sadly by definition external drives dont last as long as internal desktop drives, just because there moved about alot and hot pluged. so id also recomend 1 with a 5 year warenty rather than a 3 that way you know your gonna get at least a decent replacement when your drive fails. (notice i dont say if?). * +

if A 5 year warenty is out of your price bracket then go for a cheap drive that way when it fails your not gonna loose a wad of cash.. for a 1tb external look at 75-120 pound range. if you have g-sata then your not as limited for speed with externals and they may be worth looking into. * +

g-sata? e-sata, verbatum do 1tb drives for around 70 pounds. and you will get close to internal sata speeds * +

im guessing the g sata is the faster 1. im looking for a external drive to back up my ps3 as ppl said i sld do just in case. whats the best 1 to get 4 that. * +
