a friend of mine's computer wont switch on, monitor light just stays orange. And blank screen. Fans run though. Could it be he's ram? Or is it possibly the motherboard or cpu? Tried different graphics card just in case, but same problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks * +

im guessing it doesnt post? turn on the monitor and wait for no siganl, now turn on the pc. if the monitor imediatly goes into standby then its a dead or unseated cpu. * +

no, lay.mack. The light just stays orange, no beeps or anything. Just fans spinning. I take it, it's not the cpu then. I'll reseat the cpu tomorrow, got thermal paste here. Just to be sure it is not that . Any more ideas would be great. And thanks for that info jay.mack, now i know how to spot a problem with blown or unseated cpu * +

i'll check out the blank screen topic too, heard of holding the power button in for 30 seconds before somewhere, cant hurt to try that too i suppose, but i have the suspicion i'm dealing with a component that has blown * +
