my mate reinstalled xp without thinking about retaining any drivers. Hes just got broadband and of course discovered his ethernet socket doesnt work. But cos its a custom pc you cant just goto the manufactures website for drivers. Finding drivers for the other components like the graphics isnt a problem, just a case of identifying them individually but how do you identify the ethernet driver? * +

Or is there a default ethernet driver that would work? Its a 6 year old computer with an AMD athlon xp 2400+ cpu. * +

Thanks I assumed there must have been a kind of default driver. Cos his ethernet isnt working iam gonna use my wi-fi dongle on his pc so we can download any drivers just saves the hassle in having to transfer via memory stick etc * +

Btw custom scr*pyard compiled Dell compiled or bought out of the back of the van. The chipset makers still makes the mobo. If you look on the chip you will see a name aswell. Normally gigabit or so * +

The drivers you won't find on a windows xp cd. Sometimes they are. Did you try update driver then manually. Then the bottom option. Show all devices. In device manager it will show the name in yellow search for it on that list * +

(using my wireless network) his pc seems very fast on xp and he asked about windows 7 but I Told him it cos it was 6 years old there would be a problem getting drivers did I Tell him right? Mind you he has now drivers on xp and the default xp ones arent doing a bad job to be honest! * +
