I want to start learning programming. My languages of choice: JAVA,JAVASCRIPT, PHP,XML,PYTHON (maybe C++). What compiler, interpretor, IDE, editor would you recommend given my list of languages. Opensource software only. please. Tx * +

JDK, netbeans IDE, IDLE, notepad is all you need.(for C++ nothing cooks it better than code::blocks IDE) * +

I have a few editors (crimson, emerald, notepad++) i just wanted to know: Since one can set various chemes (font,color,etc ) for each language, e.g: C/C++/JAVA/ETC. Does these tools c*m with built-in compilers and or translators,interpretors. I only ever used these editors for sum xml, html and i have seen about a dosen+ languages listed in notepad2 for example.. * +

i'd choose notepad++ anytime... as for the language...PHP if you are more into WEB or C++ if you are more into software... those two languages are so much similar when you know one of them.. you can code also in other one * +

well IDLE is an IDE for python and yes it comes with the python interpreter and code libraries, JDK comes with JRE and a compiler for java,Netbeans is just an IDE to be used with JDK infact it it wont install if JDK is not installed, Notepad++,Kate,gedit etc are just text editors with a syntax highlighter for various languages they will only help you to easily build clear source files. * +
