I dual boot win 7 and ubuntu, now suppose I transfer some data from my friends pen drive, to my pc, I'm doing it thru linux, if the pen drive contains virus, will it harm my windows ? * +

no, aslong as you dont acces the linux partition thru windows. windows viruses dont harm linux. for sure install a linux av * +

But my data drives r accessible thru both linux and windows, i obviously cant access the linux home partition as it is ext, i meant the ntfs drives,anyways nothin has happened till now, just curious * +

No, in fact you can use the linux partition to check if the files have suspicious extensions since most of them(viruses) come with a .exe extension and you will know them ryt away coz they also have funny names. Autoruns are also to be watched out especially the ones with .inf extension. Check the files for folders such as Recycler * +
