Hi what does the option wipe free space actually do on cc.cleaner is it safe to tick the box upon running the cleaner iv used ccleaner for years and its a top bit of kit but only just noticed the wipe free space . Do many of you use ccleaner.? * +

it just over writes the unused space on your drive several times to ensure any sensitive documents you have deleted can not be recovered * +

Caution : be sure you know how to use it . It is way to easy to wipe your boot sector with ccleaner . And is that why you have problems with your laptop ? * +

I dont appear to have problems on my desktop but on my laptop when im watchen music vids with volume on full it crashes sum times nd makes a stuttering noise then a bluescreen comes up sumet like physical memory dump then it counts dwn but no probs on desktop ? * +

You can wipe your boot sector with ccleaner or any other app while the disk is online. Only when you start up from a cold boot with a boot disk then you can erase a disk. Wipe free space overwrites the free space with zeros a number of times to ensure deleted stuff can't be unerased. Its for privacy basically. Its safe as a chkdsk due to fact you can't mess up your os because important stuff are locked * +

For stuttering do a chkdsk first then a defrag. *
