Hi all, i recently lent my laptop to my brother for 3 months and got it back yesterday. It is an acer and i had windows 7 ultimate installed which was put on in december last year. Anyhow, when the computer wa given to my brother it was working perfectly, however after getting it back i have found that the touch pad and the keyboard are not working, however both a usb mouse and usb keyboard will * +

What is even more perplexing is the fact that both the mouse and keyboard will respond before windows fully boots ( such as when i reformatted and re installed), or when linux is used (which i downloaded and installed to test). I have also tried reformatting the pc and downgrading to winxp but this has exactly the same issue! * +

I have googled this and there are a lot of people who have the same problem but no one has posted a solution. I have ran both Kaspersky and Malwarebytes - both deep scans which show no viruses and i have also ran Combofix to check for viruses/malware infecting the bios but the report has come back as clean, Anyway any help you may be able to give would be much appreciated. Maybe he spilled something on it . Have you checked the device manager or used the keyboard troubleshooter ? * +

Oooh , I missed the acer part . He probably removed some bloatware that had the customizable keyboard functions on it . Try acer's website . *
