I tried backing up Windows 7 with the much acclaimed software acronis disc image and it made a backup just fine (backup of the entire 2 partitions of windows 7 including the WINRE partition) i then tried to restore it and thats where all hell broke loose. At first it could find bootmgr. tried again. erased the entire hard drive and tried restoring my .tib with the recovery cd i made but after its all done upon restarting i get an error. Had to reinstall from scratch. Is there a program i can use * +

to backup my entire windows 7 installation AND be able to restore it from that backup. Been saving my backup on an external hard drive. is this problematic? PING worked great with XP but cant seem to use it with windows 7. Also does win7 boot from c partition or the WINRE partition? * +

you could have just used the windows backup/restore function built in to win 7 * +

came across that mentioned today on the net. thing is i have always looked outside for programs taht deal best with windows. and my thinking was it being a windows program it may not be able to boot such as is teh case with most linux recovery or live cd's but i'll google arround and get as much info as i can get about win7 backup and restore. * +

twas like wool was pulled from myeyes.. will give windows backup and restore a try tonight. see if it can actually backup the entire OS and restore it. read up on it and think i'm now clued up on everything. Thanx jay.mack * +

There is only one that's 100 percent reliable for partition backup. Norton Ghost. Windows backup don't backup your system files and registry I think. So on a hard drive with no data on at all the backup will be useless as you need windows installed on it first * +
